Accessibility statement
A website everyone can use.
I want erzo.co.za to work for everyone, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification, voice control or reduced motion.
The standard
This site aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
Status: partially conformant. The tests below found no failures, but the site hasn’t yet had a full manual audit with screen readers, and the spam check on the contact form is provided by a third party (see Known limitations). I’ll only describe the site as fully conformant once both are covered.
What’s built in
- Text and controls meet WCAG AA colour contrast, and every link, button and field shows a clear focus outline.
- Everything works with a keyboard alone, in a logical order, and there’s a “Skip to content” link on every page. The sticky header never covers the item that has focus.
- Pages use proper headings, landmarks, page titles and language settings, so screen readers can navigate them.
- When your device is set to reduce motion, the scroll animations and smooth scrolling are switched off and all content is shown straight away.
- Pages reflow to a 320-pixel-wide screen (the equivalent of 400% zoom) without sideways scrolling, and still work with increased line, letter and word spacing.
- Buttons and links are large enough to tap easily.
- The contact form has a visible label on every field. Errors are explained in plain words next to the field, announced to screen readers, and focus moves to the first problem. After sending, focus moves to the confirmation message.
- The analytics choice is a small card at the bottom of the screen, not a pop-up. It doesn’t trap focus, it comes straight after “Skip to content” when you use the keyboard, and the page makes room for it so it never covers the item you’re on. You can change your choice at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page.
How it was tested
On 3 October 2026, every page of the site was checked:
- Automated checks with axe (axe-core 4.13, WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 level A and AA rules) on all 15 pages, at desktop and mobile sizes, with and without the analytics banner showing. No failures remain.
- Lighthouse accessibility audits on the main pages, all scoring 100.
- Keyboard only: tabbing through every page to check that each item can be reached, has a visible focus outline and isn’t hidden behind the header.
- Reduced motion: checking that animations and smooth scrolling switch off and nothing is left hidden.
- Reflow and text spacing at 320 pixels wide (WCAG 1.4.10 and 1.4.12).
- The contact form: labels, error messages, screen-reader announcements and focus handling, and the analytics banner (keyboard use, focus, and that nothing loads before you choose).
Automated tools can’t catch everything. Testing with screen readers (NVDA on Windows, VoiceOver on macOS and iOS) is the next step.
Known limitations
- Spam check on the contact form. The form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to stop spam. Most people never see it, but if it does show a check, that part is provided by Cloudflare and I can’t fully control how accessible it is. If it gets in your way, please email me at henry@erzo.co.za instead.
Tell me about a problem
If something on this site doesn’t work for you, or you need information in another format, please email henry@erzo.co.za. Tell me which page and what happened. I’ll reply within 5 working days and fix what I can.
